ARTIST STATEMENT
I trained in the fine arts and practiced as a landscape architect for many years. I am inspired by water movement, erosion, plant succession and other processes at play in the natural world. I paint to reveal the forms and landscapes that we glimpse at the moment or in a longer view. Working primarily in oils, I paint both plein air and in my Brooklyn studio. All work is inspired by direct observation or from my own photography. I am keenly interested in the creative process. I typically document work at each stage, beginning with an oil or charcoal sketch on paper and continuing to the final canvas.
